What happened
Citi gave Micron a loud vote of confidence two days before the memory giant’s earnings. Analyst Atif Malik raised his price target on Micron (MU) to $1,300 from $1,150 on Monday, reiterating a Buy rating and modeling sales and earnings above Wall Street consensus for both this quarter and next, Barchart reported.
The key figures from Citi’s note:
– $51B / $31.45 — Citi’s model for fiscal Q4 sales and EPS, vs. consensus of $50.8B / $31.43
– $57B / $35.25 — Citi’s next-quarter model, vs. consensus of $56.7B / $35.15
– +20% / +13% — expected quarter-over-quarter rise in blended DRAM prices this quarter and next; NAND prices seen up 34% then 15%
– 6.7x — Micron’s forward price-to-earnings ratio (FactSet, via Barron’s), before widely expected stock buybacks that could begin this December
– $50B — Citi’s estimate for Micron’s FY2027 capital expenditureMicron reports fiscal fourth-quarter results on Wednesday after the market closes, with analysts expecting revenue up roughly fivefold to about $51 billion and earnings per share up more than tenfold. Shares slipped 2.4% in premarket trading Monday to around $1,056, swept up in a broader chip selloff after OpenAI said it would pause training of its latest AI models over safety concerns.
Why it matters
Micron is the purest read on the AI memory trade: its DRAM and high-bandwidth-memory sales tell investors whether data-center demand and memory pricing are still running hot. Citi’s note argues they are — Daniel Morgan of Synovus Trust says Micron is still fulfilling less than half of the volumes its data-center customers request, with supply staying tight into fiscal 2027 and only balancing by FY2028. That scarcity underpins the 80%-plus margins memory makers are printing, and it is why Wednesday’s guidance on pricing — more than the headline beat — is the real event.
What to watch
Wednesday’s report: forward guidance on DRAM/NAND pricing, capital-spending discipline, and any official word on a buyback program. A soft print would feed the skeptics’ case that memory stocks always look cheapest at the peak of the cycle. Also watch SK Hynix and Samsung — a Micron read-through moves the entire memory complex.

Is Micron still a buy above $1,000 at a 6.7x forward multiple — or is the memory cycle too hot to chase here?
