Nvidia has launched DSX Ready, a partner qualification program that certifies data-center power and cooling equipment against the company’s AI factory reference designs. The move puts the chipmaker’s stamp of approval on battery storage and liquid-cooling hardware for the first time.
What happened
Nvidia announced DSX Ready on Sept 21, 2026, creating its first certification program for physical data-center infrastructure: battery energy storage systems (BESS) and coolant distribution units (CDUs). The initial qualifying products came from Hitachi Energy and Tesla on the storage side, plus Vertiv, LiquidStack, and LG affiliates on cooling. LG Electronics earned DSX Ready approval on Sept 22 for its 2.5-megawatt CDU, while LG Energy Solution’s JF2 AC Link battery system also qualified.
According to the Seoul Economic Daily, only three manufacturers worldwide have won DSX Ready certification at the 2.5-MW CDU level. That class counts as the large-scale standard: roughly 20 AI server racks drawing about 120 kW each consume around 2.4 MW, a load a single such unit can handle. Passing DSX Ready does not replace site-level engineering or guarantee site stability.
Why it matters
Nvidia is no longer content selling GPUs. It is moving to define and certify the physical plant around them, from power to cooling to batteries, extending its platform moat from silicon into the construction spec of every AI data center. That tightening bond between equipment makers and Nvidia’s ecosystem gives the company influence over who supplies the AI buildout.
TrendForce research cited by LG projects liquid-cooling penetration for AI chips rising from 14% in 2024 to about 60% by 2027, signaling a large addressable market for qualifying vendors such as Vertiv, LG, LiquidStack, and Hitachi Energy. For Nvidia investors, the program is another step in monetizing the AI buildout beyond chip sales.
What to watch
Actual orders and contracts are the real test. Certification is not revenue, and the Seoul Economic Daily noted that real purchase orders depend on Nvidia’s decisions. Watch whether Nvidia expands DSX Ready into more categories, such as power distribution or networking, and which vendors land named AI factory supply deals in the coming quarters.
