QIAGEN’s (NYSE: QGEN) latest FDA clearance gives US labs a complete bloodstream-infection testing lineup — a meaningful regulatory win for the Dutch diagnostics leader.

    What happened

QIAGEN announced that the FDA has cleared its QIAstat-Dx BCID GN Plus AMR Panel, a test that identifies 13 gram-negative bacterial targets and 18 antibiotic resistance markers in about one hour. With this clearance, QIAGEN says US laboratories now have access to the complete QIAstat-Dx bloodstream infection portfolio.

    • The new panel complements the previously cleared QIAstat-Dx BCID GPF Plus AMR Panel for gram-positive bacteria and fungi.
    • Together, the two panels cover 33 pathogen targets and 28 antimicrobial resistance markers, all delivered in roughly one hour on a single automated system.
    • QIAGEN says the QIAstat-Dx platform now has more than 5,200 cumulative system placements in over 100 countries as of the end of 2025.

    Why it matters

Bloodstream infections can escalate into sepsis fast — the CDC estimates about 1.7 million US adults develop sepsis each year, contributing to at least 350,000 deaths. Faster pathogen identification lets clinicians choose the right antibiotic sooner, and antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest cost drivers in hospital care.

For QIAGEN investors, the clearance expands the addressable menu of a razor-and-blades diagnostics business: each new cleared panel increases the value of every installed instrument. The US is the highest-value diagnostics market, so completing the full portfolio there matters more than a single overseas clearance would.

    What to watch

Watch for US lab adoption pace in Q4 and any commentary in QIAGEN’s next earnings on infectious-disease testing revenue. Also track whether hospitals fold the gram-negative panel into standard sepsis protocols, which would lock in recurring consumable demand. Regulatory risk is low from here — the key variable is commercial execution.
