Michael Saylor’s Strategy disclosed in an SEC 8-K filing on Monday that it bought 1,665 BTC for $142.7 million at an average price of $85,681 between September 21 and 27. It is the company’s second purchase in as many weeks, following a roughly $397 million buy the prior week — a signal the bitcoin treasury firm is done strengthening liquidity and back to aggressive accumulation.

    What happened

    • Total holdings now stand at 847,666 BTC, acquired for about $63.95 billion at an average cost of $75,437 per coin.
    • With Bitcoin trading near $84,200, the stack sits roughly 12% above average cost.
    • US spot Bitcoin ETFs logged $31.07 million in net inflows on September 28 — the eighth straight session of inflows, though far below the $998.95 million record set on September 21.
    • Bitcoin recovered to about $84,000 on Tuesday after dipping to $82,516 on Monday, but remains off last week’s eight-month high of $87,315.

    Why it matters

Strategy has become the market’s most visible marginal buyer, and its purchases keep landing on tape-weak days, providing a psychological floor for Bitcoin. Corporate treasury demand is real and verifiable — 8-K filings don’t lie. But it doesn’t replace organic spot demand: ETF inflow momentum is cooling fast, and on-chain data showed profit-taking last week at its highest level since December. Bitfinex analysts argue Bitcoin needs genuine spot buying to push through $87,000 — Saylor’s bids support sentiment, but they can’t carry the market alone.

    What to watch

Watch whether ETF inflows rebound from the cooling streak, and how Bitcoin trades around Wednesday’s PCE inflation report and Friday’s payrolls data — macro repricing is driving crypto flows right now. Also watch Strategy’s next 8-K: the pace of its buying is the fastest real-time gauge of corporate treasury demand.

Is Strategy’s relentless buying a sign of conviction — or a concentration risk the market is ignoring?
