AMD Crosses $1 Trillion Market Cap as Meta’s Muse Fuels CPU Rally

AMD just joined the $1 trillion club — and Meta’s new AI agent Muse is the unlikely catalyst behind the CPU rally.

    WHAT HAPPENED
Advanced Micro Devices crossed the $1 trillion market-capitalization threshold for the first time on Monday, September 21, 2026, closing at $615.52, up 9.95% on the day. At roughly $1.004 trillion across ~1.63 billion shares outstanding, AMD became the fourth US chipmaker to cross the mark, after Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron. The rally was broad: Intel rose ~12% and Arm ~17% that day, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index gained ~4.3%, and the Nasdaq Composite closed at a record 27,122.09. The spark was Meta Platforms’ new personal AI agent “Muse,” which topped the US Apple App Store free charts after its September 8/9 launch, overtaking ChatGPT — a visible consumer hit that forced a sector-wide repricing of AI compute demand toward CPU-heavy agentic workloads. The momentum carried into Thursday, September 24: AMD and Intel rose 2.4% and 3.9% on the day and added ~1% overnight, with Intel and Arm up ~17.3% and ~12.4% so far this week.

    WHY IT MATTERS
The investment thesis is shifting under investors’ feet. AI agents run persistent, multi-step tasks — email, calendar, bookings — that lean far more on CPUs than the GPU-heavy training workloads that defined the last AI cycle. Jefferies analyst Jacky He (via Bloomberg) argued broader agent adoption should support server-CPU demand through inference, orchestration and infrastructure workloads. Bloomberg also reported Meta is AMD’s second-largest customer at ~5.5% of AMD revenue, so the Muse halo lands directly on AMD’s server business. If agentic AI is the next compute supercycle, CPU incumbents could be repriced for years, not quarters — and AMD’s milestone marks the market’s first trillion-dollar vote of confidence in that thesis.

    WHAT TO WATCH
Investors are watching the Trump–Xi summit for signals on Taiwan, AI and semiconductor trade policy — the biggest macro overhang on the chip rally. Also on the radar: Meta’s next Muse usage disclosures, AMD’s data-center revenue guidance, and whether the rotation from GPU names into CPU names broadens or stalls.

Is the CPU supercycle thesis real, or is the market just rotating from overheated GPU names into the next AI narrative?

    Not financial advice.
