    What happened

Bitcoin is closing the books on the second-best third quarter in its history, while Ethereum just posted its best Q3 ever — turning crypto’s traditionally quiet summer stretch into one of the strongest on record.

    • BTC: +43.5% in Q3, climbing from about $58,500 at the start of July to roughly $84,000 as of Sept. 26 — bettered only by 2017’s +80.4% Q3 surge. Data: Coinglass.
    • ETH: +71% in Q3, blowing past the previous record of 66.5% set in 2025 — Ethereum’s strongest summer rally ever.
    • The bid looks institutional: U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs drew roughly $2.39B in net inflows Sept. 21–24 alone, with $999M landing on Sept. 21 in a single day.
    • Bitcoin also survived its biggest derivatives hurdle of the quarter — about $18B in notional options expired on Sept. 25 — holding the mid-$80Ks straight through.

    Why it matters

Q3 is usually crypto’s dead zone; Q4 is when the real fireworks happen. This year the quiet quarter became the loud one: Bitcoin’s best Q3 since 2013, Ethereum’s best ever. That matters for investors because the rally isn’t being carried by leverage alone — spot buying is real, profit-taking has stayed lighter than at prior peaks, and price has reclaimed investor cost-basis levels that used to cap advances. Crypto analyst Luciano called the pairing “extraordinary,” and noted Q4 has historically been even friendlier to crypto than Q3 — meaning this market enters the strongest quarter from a higher base than usual.

    What to watch

Can buyers keep absorbing supply with BTC parked in the mid-$80Ks? Resistance sits near $85K–$87K, with the $100,000 psychological line back in play if it breaks. This week’s U.S. inflation report could also set the tone for whether the rally extends into Q4.

Does a record Q3 set crypto up for an even bigger Q4 — or has the rally pulled forward the year’s gains?
