Bitcoin and Ethereum just turned a historically quiet quarter into a record-breaking one.

    What happened
According to Coinglass data reported by AsiaTokenFund and CryptoNews on Saturday, Bitcoin gained roughly 43.5% in Q3 2026, climbing from about $58,500 at the start of July to around $84,000. That puts this quarter on track to become Bitcoin’s second-best third quarter ever — trailing only the roughly 80.4% surge of 2017.

Ethereum did even better. ETH is up 71% this quarter, beating its previous Q3 record of about 66.5% set in 2025 — Ethereum’s strongest summer rally on record. Crypto analyst Luciano called the combination extraordinary: “2nd best quarter ever recorded for BTC and the best quarter ETH has ever had.”

    Why it matters
July, August and September have historically been flat or inconsistent months for crypto, with the real fireworks usually reserved for Q4. This year broke the pattern. Both assets enter October with momentum already built — and Q4 has historically been crypto’s strongest quarter, which is why traders are watching whether this momentum carries forward. The gains also stand out against a harsh macro backdrop: the 10-year Treasury yield above 5% and October Fed hike odds near 70% are hardly the friendly conditions that fueled past crypto rallies.

    What to watch
Whether BTC can hold the $84,000 area into October; spot ETF flow data, a key swing factor all year; and whether Ethereum’s record run pulls more speculative capital into altcoins. Also watch the October Fed meeting and any Strait of Hormuz developments — a risk-off shock could undo a lot of this quarter’s calm gains.
