What happened
BlackBerry (BB) delivered a clean beat in fiscal Q2 2027: adjusted EPS of $0.07 versus the $0.04 consensus, and revenue of $163.3 million, up 26% year over year and comfortably above the $144-148 million analysts expected. Adjusted EBITDA jumped 81% to $47 million, and the company logged its sixth straight quarter of positive GAAP net income.
The star was QNX, the embedded automotive software unit, which posted record quarterly revenue of $80.3 million, up 27% — beating the company’s own $70-75 million guide. Royalty revenue alone climbed $10.4 million as more vehicle programs ramped into production.
Why it matters
Management raised full-year fiscal 2027 guidance across the board:
- Revenue: $616-$636 million (was $594-$621 million), above the $614.1 million consensus
- Adjusted EBITDA: $141-$158 million; adjusted EPS: $0.19-$0.22
- Full-year operating cash flow of about $115 million expected
Strategically, QNX landed its first Alloy Kore design win with Coretura, the Volvo Group-Daimler Truck joint venture — billed as the largest design win in QNX history, with over $100 million in future royalties expected at roughly 3x the per-instance value of the customer’s current deployment. Fresh wins with Uber, Momenta, and XHEART push QNX beyond autos into autonomous vehicles and physical AI.
What to watch
Q3 guidance ($143-$154 million revenue, $0.04-$0.05 adjusted EPS) sits around consensus but skews a touch soft on EPS, and shares faded after the initial post-earnings pop — trading near $8.72. At roughly 46x forward earnings, the multiple demands flawless royalty conversion and on-time Alloy Kore rollouts.
