Bristol Myers Squibb faces a key regulatory date on September 30: the FDA will decide whether to expand heart drug Camzyos (mavacamten) to adolescents aged 12 to under 18 with symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM).
What happened
The FDA granted the supplemental application Priority Review and assigned a September 30, 2026 PDUFA date, with approval based on data from the late-stage SCOUT-HCM study. A green light would make Camzyos the first cardiac myosin inhibitor available for adolescents with oHCM — a serious condition where thickened heart muscle blocks blood flow from the left ventricle.
- Camzyos sales surged 74% year over year to $729 million in the first half of 2026, and hit $416 million in Q2 alone (up 60%), with more than 25,000 U.S. patients prescribed.
- Five-year follow-up data presented at ESC 2026 showed durable benefit: 97.4% of patients reached the key Valsalva LVOT gradient target, with no new safety signals.
Why it matters
Camzyos is fast becoming one of Bristol Myers’ most important growth drivers — nearly $1.07 billion in sales last year — at exactly the moment the company needs new revenue to offset patent expirations on legacy blockbusters. An adolescent label meaningfully expands the addressable market and extends the franchise’s growth runway. BMY’s Growth Portfolio revenue rose 15% in Q2 to $7.6 billion, with Camzyos listed among the key drivers.
What to watch
The FDA’s decision is expected September 30 (the agency sometimes communicates on PDUFA dates, sometimes a day or two after).
