Iridium Communications (IRDM) shareholders have approved Rocket Lab’s (RKLB) planned acquisition of the satellite operator, clearing a major milestone on the road to closing. At a special meeting on September 24, 2026, about 99.6% of votes cast backed the merger agreement, representing roughly 81% of Iridium’s outstanding shares. Under the deal terms, Iridium holders will receive $27 in cash plus Rocket Lab shares based on an exchange-ratio collar, for a notional value of $54 per share. RKLB shares ticked up 0.7% in after-hours trading while IRDM slipped 0.29%.

Why it matters: This is one of the most ambitious space M&A deals of the cycle — a launch provider absorbing an established satellite network. Rocket Lab CEO Sir Peter Beck called the vote “an important milestone” toward building a “next-generation space powerhouse,” combining Iridium’s global network, spectrum, and operating experience with Rocket Lab’s launch and space-systems capabilities. If the combination delivers, it could unlock new applications for governments, commercial customers, and millions of end users — and it signals that the space industry’s consolidation wave is still accelerating.

What to watch: The deal is expected to close by mid-2027, subject to the remaining required regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Any regulatory friction, financing developments, or movement under the exchange-ratio collar could move both stocks, and the complete voting results will be reported in Iridium’s upcoming Form 8-K filing with the SEC.

Is $54 a share a fair price for Iridium’s global satellite network, spectrum, and operating experience — or are Rocket Lab shareholders getting the better end of this deal? Share your take in the comments.
