What happened
On September 23, 2026, Blockchain.com and NYSE Group signed a memorandum of understanding under which Blockchain.com would distribute tokenized versions of U.S. exchange-listed equities and ETFs to its users through the NYSE’s planned digital alternative trading system (ATS). The venue is designed for 24/7 trading, fractional share ownership, stablecoin-based funding, and instant on-chain settlement — but it is not live yet: trading begins only after the platform launches and the required regulatory approvals are obtained. No financial terms or launch date were disclosed; the MOU is non-binding and exploratory.
Blockchain.com says it has more than 44 million verified accounts, and NYSE Group president Lynn Martin called the company “a natural complement” given its global footprint and digital-asset expertise. The deal includes two-way data sharing: ICE Data Services plans to distribute Blockchain.com’s crypto market data and analytics to subscribers, while Blockchain.com plans to integrate select ICE and NYSE exchange data feeds into its app.
The MOU follows NYSE’s January 2026 digital-venue announcement, ICE’s March investment in OKX, and the NYSE’s earlier MOU with Securitize — all aimed at crypto-native distribution. Per Altcoin Buzz, it came about a week after the SEC’s temporary five-year “Innovation Exemption” (Sept 17) allowing qualifying venues to trade tokenized stocks under conditions including that tokens carry the same rights as ordinary shares, after Congress failed to advance the CLARITY Act.
Why it matters
This is a credibility milestone for tokenized equities: the NYSE is not merely theorizing about on-chain markets but lining up crypto-native distribution for them. A 44-million-account channel gives the planned digital ATS a built-in user base from day one — something most tokenized-stock startups lack. For Blockchain.com, the deal adds a regulated-equity angle to a business rooted in crypto trading and wallets.
The data-sharing leg matters too. ICE already monetizes market data at scale; adding Blockchain.com’s crypto analytics deepens its crypto footprint, while Blockchain.com gains institutional-grade equity feeds inside its consumer app. Both sides extract value now, while the ATS itself still awaits launch and regulatory approvals.
What to watch
Watch the hard milestones: the digital ATS launch date, the regulatory approvals required before trading begins, and whether this MOU converts into binding commercial terms. Also track adoption of the SEC’s Innovation Exemption and whether its rights-parity conditions prove workable in practice. Competitively, the NYSE is simultaneously working with Securitize while ICE backs OKX — watch how these parallel distribution plays converge or clash. Finally, any revival of the CLARITY Act in Congress could reset the entire regulatory frame these MOUs are built on.

Do you think tokenized U.S. stocks will draw meaningful retail volume in their first year of trading — or will the NYSE’s digital ATS remain primarily an institutional venue? Share your take in the comments.
