One of the year’s most anticipated IPOs just got shelved. Oura, the maker of the smart ring that popularized health-tracking wearables, announced Tuesday, Sept. 29, that it is postponing its Nasdaq debut “despite strong demand, due to uncertainty in the IPO market.”
What happened
The company had filed a public S-1 earlier this month and was targeting a listing on the Nasdaq with up to $2.2 billion in proceeds — 50 million shares at $40-$44 apiece, implying a valuation around $15.6 billion. Its registration statement with the SEC has not yet been declared effective. CEO Tom Hale said the business “has the luxury of choosing our moment,” adding that the company is profitable, growing meaningfully, and expected to grow revenue 90% year over year in fiscal 2026, with 5.7 million paid members and a strong response to the Oura Ring 5.
But the IPO calendar is quietly collapsing. The Journal reports that the IPO market had been booming — companies have raised $127 billion so far this year, up 400% from 2025 — and then hit a wall: Holtec Nuclear and Bamboo Insurance delayed their offerings in recent days, and Anthropic pushed its blockbuster IPO from October to November. Barron’s offered a sharper take: at the $42 midpoint, Oura would have traded at over eight times annualized sales and 30 times pretax cash flow — a multiple barely below Apple’s, with 18 banks on the cover and a long list of selling insiders.
Why it matters
This is the highest-profile IPO casualty of the autumn window, and the reason is legible to any market watcher: the Iran conflict has kept oil above $100, the 10-year Treasury yield is at 19-year highs above 5.2%, and traders price roughly 70% odds of an October Fed hike. New-issue buyers want a calm tape, and this is not one. A delay by a profitable, fast-growing company like Oura signals that even strong fundamentals are being trumped by macro timing.
What to watch
- Whether Anthropic holds its November target — it is the bellwether for the whole IPO pipeline
- Wednesday’s PCE report and Friday’s payrolls: cooling prints could reopen the window
- Oura’s next S-1 amendment for clues on a revised price range
- Whether postponed deals return at lower valuations or go private

Was Oura right to wait, or does a delayed IPO usually signal a weaker debut later?
