Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is reportedly eyeing Dallas, Texas, as the site of a second US chipmaking hub, alongside its expanding operations in Phoenix, Arizona. The report, from Taiwan’s UDN newspaper citing unnamed semiconductor-equipment industry sources and picked up by MarketWatch, says TSMC is evaluating the Dallas area — while the company itself has declined to comment.
What happened
According to the UDN report published Tuesday, TSMC is considering the Dallas region — nicknamed the Silicon Prairie — for its next major US investment. The area already hosts significant semiconductor operations from Texas Instruments, Coherent, Samsung, and Tesla facilities. This would build on TSMC’s previously announced plan to spend $265 billion in the United States, disclosed this summer, and on its large Phoenix hub already underway in Arizona.
Why it matters
A second US hub would deepen TSMC’s tariff shield and move advanced production closer to its American clients, which account for roughly three-quarters of the company’s revenue. The choice of Dallas underscores how the US chipmaking map is expanding beyond Arizona, and suggests equipment suppliers see sustained multi-site demand ahead.
- ~$265B in planned US investment, announced this summer
- Phoenix, Arizona hub already underway
- US clients account for roughly three-quarters of TSMC revenue
- Dallas region already hosts TI, Coherent, Samsung, and Tesla facilities
What to watch
Investors will look for official confirmation from TSMC, details on how capital spending would be split between Phoenix and a potential Dallas hub, the timeline for the Phoenix fab ramp, and how evolving US chip tariff policy shapes the decision. Equipment suppliers exposed to both markets could see the clearest read-through.
