Truist (TFC) reported third-quarter 2026 adjusted diluted EPS of $1.16, up 12% year over year and roughly in line with the ~$1.14–$1.17 consensus. Reported revenue of $3.75 billion, however, missed the $5.35 billion consensus badly — entirely because of a $1.45 billion pre-tax loss on available-for-sale securities repositioning.
- Adjusted EPS: $1.16 (+12% YoY); GAAP EPS $0.56 after strategic-action impacts
- Reported revenue: $3.75B vs $5.35B est; adjusted revenue-TE $5.30B (stable)
- Net interest income-TE: $3.71B (+1.1% QoQ); NIM-TE 3.00% (+2bps)
- Adjusted ROTCE: 14.6%; deposits $413.2B (+$3.9B QoQ)
- Pre-market: shares fell 2.5%
Strip out the one-time portfolio surgery and the quarter looks healthy. Wealth management delivered record quarterly income of $407 million, deposits grew for the third straight quarter, and asset quality improved — nonperforming loans fell to 0.40% of loans from 0.51%.
The strategic actions are the real story. Truist completed the $5.5 billion sale of its Regional Acceptance Corporation auto-loan portfolio and, on October 14, agreed to sell roughly $7.7 billion of unsecured LightStream consumer loans to Carlyle — exiting non-core consumer credit to focus on relationship banking.
Management reaffirmed ROTCE targets of 15% in 2027 and 16–18% over the medium to long term. The question is whether the securities losses were a one-quarter cleanup or the start of a longer balance-sheet repricing. Watch Q4 net interest income and whether the LightStream sale closes on schedule.
