It’s a split week for XRP: a key ledger upgrade slipped by at least ten days while institutional demand through spot ETFs kept climbing. According to CoinDesk reporting on September 26, the XRP Ledger’s “Batch” upgrade was delayed after validator support briefly fell below the required threshold, resetting the activation clock. The earliest possible activation is now October 9, assuming support holds.
What happened: The Batch upgrade would let users submit up to eight transactions together, including all-or-nothing exchanges that could enable simultaneous payment and delivery of tokenized assets — functionality aimed at making the ledger more attractive for institutional settlement use cases. Separately, U.S. spot XRP ETFs posted about $38 million in net inflows over two trading sessions, per SoSoValue data cited by Crypto Briefing: $14.89 million on September 24 after $23.17 million in the prior session. Bitwise’s fund led with $9.91 million, followed by Franklin Templeton at $4.98 million. The five funds now hold a combined $1.70 billion in assets with cumulative net inflows of $1.76 billion. XRP traded near $1.55, still below the $1.60 level traders are watching as near-term resistance.
Why it matters: The upgrade delay is a technical scheduling matter rather than a fundamental problem — validator support thresholds exist precisely to prevent rushed activations — but it pushes back a feature that matters for the ledger’s tokenization pitch. The offset is real institutional demand: steady multi-million-dollar daily inflows into regulated products continue to firm up XRP’s floor even as leveraged speculation cools. Open interest has been contracting faster than price, which typically signals speculative froth leaving the market rather than broad-based selling.
What to watch: Whether Batch crosses the validator threshold and activates on schedule around October 9, the next batches of daily ETF flow data, and whether XRP can break the $1.60 ceiling on continued institutional buying.
