    Bonds Blinked. Stocks Broke Out.

The S&P 500 rose 0.58% to 7,819.04 — its first record since mid-August and first close above 7,800 — as the 10-year Treasury pulled back to 5.27%. Marvell’s $20B FY28 forecast, Option Care’s $5.8B buyout, and a rare utilities-led rally kept the tape humming.

The close in one lineYields took a breather; the AI trade took the records — S&P’s 28th record close of 2026.

First record in nearly two months

The S&P 500 rose 0.58% to 7,819.04 — its first record close since mid-August and its 28th of the year — the Nasdaq Composite added about 0.4% for its second straight record, and the Dow tacked on 253 points (0.49%) to 51,521.28. The Russell 2000 slipped about 0.7%, the lone red card in an otherwise green tape.

Marvell was the day’s story: up 5.8% to $287.01 after raising its fiscal 2028 revenue forecast to $20B and unveiling a $70–90B fiscal 2031 target, with Nvidia’s $2B investment adding fuel. Nvidia set its third straight intraday record, closing up 0.1% and nearing a $6T market cap. Option Care Health surged 32.7% after McKesson and CD&R agreed to take it private for $5.8B at $32.05 a share — a 37% premium.

The bond rout took a breather. The 10-year fell to 5.27% from Monday’s 5.31% settlement — the highest since 2002 — and a $58B three-year auction cleared at 4.932%, the highest since May 2006. After the bell, Constellation Brands beat estimates ($3.74 vs $3.55) on 6% revenue growth, and Penguin Solutions smashed its quarter — $1.00 a share vs $0.77 expected — and raised its fiscal 2027 outlook.

    What the pros are saying

Tuesday’s broad rally “spoke to the fundamental strength driving the ongoing bull rally” — and the day’s driver may have been “sentiment relief associated with the rebound in crude flows.”

“It’s pretty clear to me that last year it was not. We were undervalued last year,” said Marvell’s COO, on why investors are finally “starting to understand the value of the business” after a tough 2025.

Chris KoopmansMarvell COO — via Barron’s

“Markets have had another volatile session … On the bright side, yesterday brought some initial signs that the pressure on France was stabilizing, with a clear outperformance in French debt.”
