Micron is knocking on a door that won’t open — while Wall Street insists there’s a mansion behind it. MU has failed at $1,100 resistance three times, yet analysts see ~50% upside to their average target, with one brave soul calling for $3,000. This is the market’s highest-stakes game of chicken: the chart says “not yet,” the fundamentals say “how much higher?”

MU daily chart — Bull Lounge analysis

    What the Chart Shows

The daily chart is a pressure cooker:

    • The ceiling: a descending trendline from the $1,255 all-time high (June 25) — every rally since has died on it, most recently at $1,100
    • The floor: an ascending support line from the summer lows — higher lows all the way up, currently near $950–980
    • Current price: $1,029–1,036 — mid-squeeze, closer to the ceiling than the floor
    • The pattern: a coiling triangle with about 8–10% of room left. These compressions resolve violently in one direction
    • Analyst overlay: average target $1,564.55, median $1,510 — roughly 50% above current price

    The Wall Street Pile-On

I’ve rarely seen a stock with this much analyst conviction at this much of a discount to targets. In the last 14 days alone, 10 firms confirmed Buy ratings:

    Firm Target Upside from $1,030
    D.A. Davidson (Oct 7) $3,000 +191%
    Melius Research $2,200 +114%
    Cantor Fitzgerald $2,000 +94%
    Rosenblatt (Oct 1) $1,900 +84%
    HSBC $1,700 +65%
    BNP Paribas Exane $1,700 +65%
    Needham $1,650 +60%
    TD Cowen $1,600 +55%
    RBC Capital $1,500 +46%
    Baird $1,520 +48%

Forty-one analysts rate it a Buy against just 5 Holds. The consensus average target of $1,407.88 implies +37% — and D.A. Davidson’s Gil Luria, who just raised to $3,000, puts it simply: the memory shortage lasts through 2027 and 2028, and the biggest buyers (Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Nvidia, Apple) are all locking in supply. “If you don’t buy it, they will.”

The Fundamental Case Is Absurdly Strong

    • Fiscal Q4: revenue $54.23B (+379% YoY), EPS $33.42 vs $31.77 consensus — a beat on already-astronomical expectations
    • HBM4 capacity sold out for 2026, with a $150 billion backlog
    • Demand visibility on more than 75% of fiscal 2027 output; customers already discussing 2028 allocations
    • Forward P/E of just 7 (Melius) — the market is pricing Micron like a dying cyclical, not a sold-out AI supplier
    • Debt-to-equity of 0.03 — a fortress balance sheet for a capital-intensive manufacturer

So Why Won’t It Break $1,100?

Three overhangs are capping the chart:

    1. The Burry shadow. Michael Burry’s Scion disclosed a short position against MU in early July at $1,051.87 — almost exactly current price. Whether he’s still in or not, the market remembers: the most famous bubble-caller alive is betting against memory at these levels, citing historical cycle risk.

    2. Export controls. Reports of potential new U.S. HBM export curbs hit in July (-8% that day) — HBM is Micron’s highest-margin segment, and any restriction goes straight to the bottom line.

    3. The cycle ghost. Memory veterans have PTSD. Every prior supercycle ended in a supply glut and a 50%+ drawdown. The $8.5B CXMT IPO (China’s DRAM challenger) and the Taiwan union strike headlines feed that fear, even as contracted demand says this time is structurally different.

    Key Levels to Watch

    Level Price Significance
    All-time high $1,255 June 25 peak; breakout target #1
Resistance (3x rejected) $1,100 The door — daily close above = breakout
Current price $1,029 Inside the coil
    Ascending support ~$950–980 Higher-lows trendline
Breakdown Below $950 Invalidates the squeeze; $880 next
    Analyst median target $1,510 +47% — the \”mansion behind the door\”

    Three Scenarios

Bull case (base): a daily close above $1,100 on expanding volume breaks the descending trendline. Measured move from the triangle projects to $1,255 (the old high), then the $1,400–1,500 analyst cluster. The squeeze has been building for three months — breakouts from coils this tight tend to be fast.

Base case: one more rejection at $1,100, a dip toward the $950–980 rising support, then a fourth attempt. The pattern allows it; your patience may not.

Bear case: a daily close below $950 breaks the ascending support and the whole structure fails. The Burry thesis wins the near term, $880 (the chart’s lower marker) becomes the target, and the $1,500 analyst targets get pushed to 2027.

    The Trade

This is a textbook breakout-watch setup: defined risk (below $950), defined trigger (daily close above $1,100), and asymmetric upside (analyst targets 37–191% higher). You don’t have to predict the direction — the chart will tell you. The only mistake is chasing: buying mid-coil at $1,030 gives you the worst of both worlds.

Breakout or fourth rejection — what’s your trigger, and where’s your stop? Drop your levels below.
