Data as of Oct 16, 2026, pre-market (all times ET) unless noted. Index moves are Oct 15 closes.

Fed Chair Warsh just took the October hike off the table — almost. After his IMF remarks, hike odds collapsed from nearly 30% to about 15%.

Stocks celebrated with a rotation rally: the Dow jumped 1.08% and small caps surged 1.38%, while the Nasdaq finished flat. Yields fell across the board.

    Nasdaq 100 29,935.59 -0.05%

    Economic Data

September PPI (released Oct 15): Producer prices surged 6.3% y/y vs. 5.4% expected — the hottest since December 2022. Core PPI hit 5.0% vs. 4.4% expected.

Yet markets shrugged: retail sales beat at +0.8% (vs. 0.3% expected), jobless claims held at 199K, and the Empire State index jumped to 25.5 (vs. 12.3 expected). The Philly Fed disappointed at 20.9 vs. 28.0 expected. EIA crude inventories drew a massive 8.56M barrels.

    Market Sentiment

Rotation, not euphoria. Money moved out of mega-cap tech and into cyclicals, banks, and small caps — the Dow’s 1.08% gain and Russell’s 1.38% surge tell the story.

Falling yields did the heavy lifting: the 10-year dropped to 5.079% as Warsh cooled hike fears. Gold’s jump to $4,192.50 shows caution hasn’t left the building.
